What College Really Taught Me.

I am officially have less than 60 days until I will be rocking the cap and gown and getting my undergraduate! this is absolutely insane, and at times I never thought this day would come. So in honor of my almost college graduation, I will tell you what college really taught me:

  1. They say you get to pick 2 out of 3 when it comes to grades, sleep, and social life. They weren't kidding. However, you can be about average and manage all 3. Or to quote my favorite man, Ron Swanson, "never half ass two things, whole ass one thing."
  2. It is perfectly normal to change your major.
  3. Use a planner. But really. They're amazing. mine has everything in it. Literally EVERYTHING.
  4. Get the crazy out now. In the past four years I have: gone on a spontaneous road trip, gotten 4 tattoos, 9 piercings, and dyed my hair too many times to count. I also encourage you to explore, make out with a random, stay out a little too late, get that late night chinese food. (just please make sure you're safe while partaking in late night activities, I do not endorse nor encourage illicit or illegal activities)
  5. Call home. and often. since moving away, my mom has become my best friend. Don't forget that as we're growing up, they're getting older too.
  6. Get creative in the cafeteria. If you learn how to make a bomb salad or mix up the pasta, you will not only actually enjoy eating there, but your friends will always be asking you to make them food. It's like you're a local food guru.
  7. That being said, learn to cook on your own. No, mac and cheese and frozen meals/pizza don't count. Learn how to cook a full meal from scratch. You'll feel awesome.
  8. College taught me how to have conversations. No one wants to talk to that person at the party that starts every conversation with "what major are you?" Excuse me, it is Saturday night, I have a beer in my hand, the last thing I want to talk about is class. You want to talk Harry Potter or this weeks episode of Once Upon A Time, cool. I can work with that.
  9. Not everyone is your friend. SAY WHAAAA?! That's right, you heard me. I PROMISE you will not like everyone at your school, nor will everyone at your school like you. Its just a fact. The same goes for professors. Don't worry about it. Just keep doin' you and keep the ones who do like how weird you are close. Those are the only people that matter.
Like these goons, who have been the besest since day 1
  10. But most of all, don't blink. These 4 (or 5 or 6) years go faster than you could ever imagine, and they truly are the best years of your life. You learn more about yourself, life and the world in college than you will anywhere else. Don't take a single moment for granted.
Is there anything you would add to the list? or any advice for a soon to be college grad?

Changes.

With everything that has recently happened in my life (like my best friend getting engaged!) I've been doing a lot of reflecting and soul searching. I thought back to my past and realized where I am no is no where near where I thought I would be at this time, but yet, its exactly how I imagined myself.
With college graduation just around the corner, I thought we'd take a look back to this time 4 years ago. And where better to start than senior prom?
The whole fam-bam
nothing says awkward like 17
my adorable prom date and I.
At this point in my life, my expectations were minimum and I was just ready to leave suburbia. Enter high school graduation:

Fast forward through four years of college... here's one giant collage that sums up my entire college experience:
Check out these ladies HERE and HERE
I've gone through an insane amount of changes in the past four years, and I don't think its anything short of a complete blessing.
Changing isn't just about the amount of colors you've put in your hair, or the increasing number of wrinkles next to your eyes. For me, change has been about not only discovering who I am, but loving every piece of her.
Four years ago, I was a soccer recruit with an environmental geosciences major. Today, I'm 70 some days away from graduation with a major in outdoor education.
Sure, four years ago I thought by now I'd have a dog and a ring on my finger, and I have neither currently, but that doesn't stop me from living my life.

So thank you to the past, for teaching me everything I know, and cheers to the future, because we don't really know what is coming next, but I guarantee it'll be one hell of a ride.

Hey! I'm still here!

Hello! Hi! Yes, I'm still here. I got a little caught up in our annual Snofest. So, here is a quick post about what this week has been like for me. (aka un-friggin-believable)
This was the week's schedule
So the past three years, I competed on a team. My freshman year, we were a team of 4 girls who had no clue what SnoFest was truly about or what we had just gotten ourselves into, but through determination and a lot of questionable acts, we placed in third. I don't mean to brag, but we basically changed the game of SnoFest through our pure badassery.

The following year, we joined forces with another mostly freshman team and became a SnoFest powerhouse. We won almost every event, kicked butt in the scavenger hunt and ended up coming in first place! I have never celebrated so hard in my life. I will forever have Yacht Club in my blood.

Before SnoFest 2012, I barely knew any of the people on my team, but after that, this group of people became my best friends and since then, they're people I will always have in my life, and memories I could never forget. So obviously, we stayed Yacht Club for our junior year, but under a new name: Yacht Club 2.0

This year, we only placed in second, but still exploded champagne bottles when we were announced. That is true team pride. Through these past four years, I have done some unreal things, things that I would never imagine myself doing anywhere else. Including wrestling in both goo and baby oil (which is incredibly disgusting in both the mouth and the eyes), rode a mechanical bull, did chicken fighting in a lab coat, and overall had the best experience of my life. So, naturally when it came to my senior year, it was time for me to be on the other end of the competition... A judge!

Being a judge was honestly the craziest experience of my life. I can't even put into words how the week was. Nor can I really write about it because honestly, what happens during SnoFest, stays at SnoFest.

Oh, and did I mention, all of this is sponsered by our Student Association? Man, I love college!
Does anyone else's college have anything like SnoFest? I wanna hear about it! Or just any crazy experiences in general!
