Rose. Bud. Thorn.

Well, here is another link up with TOATS because I absolutely love her blog and she is always hosting great link ups. (why did I not find these sooner?!)

So this one is all about the pits and the peaks of the week... well at camp, we do this thing that's pretty similar called rose, bud. thorn. The rose is whatever was awesome or great or neat or cool or any other equally positive adjectives. The bud is something that you're looking forward to or are excited for. The thorn is the not so great part of the week.

Alright. Here we go:

Thorn-- I'm in a funk. I don't know what it is or why, but this week has put me in a serious funk. Real life is creeping closer and closer. My friends one by one are slowly starting to get into relationships, and I'm flying more solo than ever. And winter has been WAY TOO LONG (and cold) and frankly, its not helping the seasonal depression. (can I just get like an IV drip of Vitamin D?)

Rose-- I had a very relaxing spring break. (one of two) I had a Harry Potter marathon, drank plenty of wine, cooked some amazing meals, lots of baths - with wine of course - and I started working out this week! I've had a lot of time to collect myself and my thoughts and work more on the blog. And I've been fighting this funk like a boss.
spinach feta onion and garlic tart --- YUM!

breaded and baked chicken breast with asparagus glazed in a red wine. --- also YUM

Bud-- I applied for my first big kid job this week! There was an online application, and they got back to me asking to fill out a skills inventory and even discussed some hiring potential. It may not be too promising because of my inconvenient start date, but I wrote my first ever cover letter!!! I have never felt like such an adult in my life! I'm excited to fill out more job applications and to see where I end up come September! :)
I'm also super pumped about blogging and have been getting more and more active and absolutely loving this community. All of you are great and I can't wait to just do more awesome bloggy things!

So this has been my week... but seriously, if anyone has any recommendations on how to get out of these deep winter funks, help a girl out!

Life on Rewind

Transformation Tuesday
Way Back Wednesday
Throwback Thursday
Flashback Friday

We are OBSESSED with the past. Half the stories we tell start with "remember that time..." or "back when I was in college..." or "when I was a kid..." we love the past. and I admit, I am no different. I've participated in the "throwback Thursday" train many of times.
left: halloween circa 1998. top right: my favorite Instagram #tbt middle right: #tbt from this summer bottom right: #tbt to my 21st. I got real rowdy with my mom :)
I've even been one to make a transformation Tuesday collage with my best friend and fellow blogger Kailagh Anne.
She might just kill me for this picture...
While its fun to look back at these pictures and laugh at old memories, there's something I've never really understood: if we're so in love with the past, why do we always wish away the present in hopes for the future?
I'm gonna get a little cliche here, so bare with me, but why do we always obsess about a different time than what we're in? I love the quote, "Yesterday is history, tomorrow's a mystery, and today is a gift, that's why its called the present." I think we all need to start thinking like this. (and maybe I need to take my own advice) But no matter how much you dwell on the past, you can't change it; what's done is done. And as for tomorrow, who knows what it will bring, but if you're always focused on tomorrows, you'll eventually run out and realize that tomorrow never actually came.
I love looking back at memories and laughing or crying at different places I've been or people I've met or things I've done, but you can't spend your life wishing those days away.
Life is short, embrace it.

PS here's a little transformation Tuesday that honestly had me in stitches, I thought it was so clever:

Bless Your Heart

Say WHAT?! I've been blogging for literally, a week, and I get nominated for a Liebster Award. I'm so lucky to have the best friend who also happens to be an incredible blogger, Kailagh at Kailagh Anne.

1. If you could be any under the sea animal what would it be?
I would have to say, I would be a narwhal. Those things are pretty incredible.

2. What is your favorite phone app?
I. Love. Snapchat. I have mastered the cute flirty snap, and the raunchy as hell sending-it-to-my-best-friend snap.
3. You are in the future, what would you tell your self in 2014?
That I'll survive graduation. And to never forget that I literally have THE best friends in the entire world, and a wonderful support system.
4. What is your favorite holiday?
4th of July. I love America. I love how even though people may not love our country all the time, we unite for a single day. The entire country celebrating together. And nothing says America better than beer, BBQ, and explosives.
5. What is your favorite television show?
Of all time, probably Friday Night Lights or Gossip Girl. As of recently, I've gone on a Netflix binge of Parks and Recreation, which is an absolute RIOT! I am honestly always in stitches watching it. Amy Poehler is a comedic genius. And we all know a Ron Swanson.

6. If you could tell your readers anything, what would it be?
Just two words: thank you! Thank you for reading! I know I'm a new blog and I am still 100% learning and am no where near being the blog I want to be. But thank you for hanging out with me anyways.
7. Favorite song?
This is an impossible question to answer! Right now I think I could narrow it down to like 4: 1. Bottoms Up - Brantley Gilbert 2. Team - Lorde 3. 400 Lux - Lorde 4. Replay - Zendaya
8. If you had one magical power what would it be?
I would want to be able to teleport. But that makes me nervous, because in Heroes, they guy who teleports dies because he broke the time-space continuum too many times. So I'd have to be careful.
9. Favorite kind of coffee?
Cold Press Ice Coffee with a shot of Vanilla and a splash of soy milk. YUM
10. When getting ready to go out, what is your favorite song to get ready too?
Oh goodness... well, my housemates and I have a song we quite enjoy getting pumped up to: Comin' In Hot - Hollywood Undead
11. If you could tell your best friends one thing, what would it be?
I love you guys! Each and every one of you. (I'm kind of a best friend whore -- I've got lots!) I don't care if we don't talk every day or even see each other more than a few times a year. You are my best friend because no matter the last time we talked, you're always a phone call away, and I love you for that. I don't care what happens in the future, you will always be my best friend. Is that more than one thing? I don't think so...

I unfortunately am so new, that I haven't had the chance to really meet many new bloggers... so if you see this, its a link up at my dear friend, Kailagh Anne's blog. So head that way!

You're Doing WHAT?!

This is a real quick post. So it may seem obvious, but I just started blogging, and being a college student on a budget, I couldn't quite convince myself to cough up the money to have someone design my blog. So yes, right now, the blog is a little bland and dull.... but not for long!
That's right! I'm teaching myself step by step to design it all by myself! I feel pretty accomplished, not going to lie. But, the credit is not all mine, my friend Kailagh has been my guardian angel of the blogging world.

Kailagh Anne
this is my saving grace
She sent my DIY posts from a beautiful blog, Something Swanky. Which has honestly been more helpful than I could have imagined!

Hopefully this process will be quick and painless and it will be done in a blink of an eye. So bare with me as we give this blog a major, much needed, facelift!
